Barefoot & Sunshine is more than a band. It’s a lifestyle, fueled by a longing for all people to break away and live the life they choose. Aside from turning heads with their emotive performances, people from all around are intrigued and inspired by their unconventional way of life- living on the road in a little white school bus.

Dean Mattoon and Esmé Alexis blend style and voice, with a shared adoration of entrancing vocal harmony and melodic electric guitar. Inspired by a range of artists like The Wood Brothers, The Band, Tedeschi/Trucks, and Warren Zevon, they mix Americana and Roots music with a twist of Soul. Touching on subjects such as death, awakenings, moving on, and a few good times along the way, their commitment to being present in each song resonates with audiences.

Both originally from different sides of Iowa, and then existing in parallel in the same scene for many years, they formed Barefoot & Sunshine in New Orleans after connecting mid-pandemic. Shortly after, they decided to jump in with bare feet and take to the streets as vagabond vanlife musicians. Over these two years they have traveled the country as an acoustic/electric duo, only settling in the Midwest over the winter to slow down, write and record, and to eagerly take the stage as a full band.
